Fall Time...Round 1

Well, I am officially ready for fall to get here and stick around. I am sick of hot days, and everything that comes with summer (yes, in the winter I will wish it was fall again). I took advantage last weekend, the first weekend of September, to start some fall decorating in our home...and I spent not one penny.

It all started when Nick and I were cutting grass, and we noticed green acorns on an oak tree outside! I got really giddy...and Nick didn't understand. Later that night I sweet talked him into picking me a whole bowl of acorns to use in the house!

I washed them with some water, and let them lay out to dry

Then I used them as BOWL FILLER! Genius, I know! I had 2 potpourri dishes on hand, so I just added a pillar candle to each and some acorns, and voila, we have an updated fall candlescape!

With the coffee table, I centered the dish on my already-there tray, and set the whole thing on an angle. Usually the tray always sits centered, but I kind of like the off center look. It may stay this way for Christmas too! I added some coasters, to avoid water rings on my furniture, and a mosaic votive holder, and called that table done!

With the dining table, I centered the dish on my lazy susan, and plopped down some green and gold fall inspired placemats. Then I set the table, to show off my dishes, took this picture, and put the dishes right back in the cabinet. haha.

My last acorn project was on a wall cabinet on a wall in the dining room. I had another tray with a mosaic candle holder, added a fake potted plant, and surrounded these with acorns. Voila, simple as pie!

Sidenote: I am not really sure if these acorns will stay green, so we shall see how long they last inside the house. Also, Im already planning Christmas acorn projects. I feel like such a lucky girl to have an oak tree!

My next project was as simple as switching out our couch for something more fall-ish...like the pillows on our bed! (I warned you this was a really cheap decor switch up.)

This is how our couch has look for, well our whole 8 months of marriage. I LURVE these pillows, and how well they go with my wall art!

And This is how our bed usually looks, with the more neutral colored pillows. Our new house has baby blue walls, so these needed a new home, or some slip covers to go better in there.

So, I just did a little switch up. Don't you like how the more fall like pillows work with the wall art too? And the acorns?

Stay tuned for more of these cheap updates for fall! How are you redecorating for the season changes? Do you have any free ideas up your sleeve? I'd love to steal some of them! :)
