= one happy girl!
As Gab said in my bio, my husband and I recently moved to Chesterfield, SC. It has been a good experience so far, but being away from our families is always hard :( We've been here for 4 weeks now, and our new home is coming together nicely! I have spent a lot of time decorating, and hanging things on the walls (bless my sweet Nick's heart, but he is a terrible handyman. hehe).
Here are some cute Jolly's in front of our new home :) (please be kind, this was on our actual moving day, and we know we look like a hot mess)
Now as you can tell, this house is pretty large. If fact, us newleyweds and our two precious pooches are now in a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom rental house. I know, we are very blessed with space, and I'm afraid that whenever we buy a home, I wont be able to settle for any home with any less square footage. With all of our new extra space, we now have a dedicated office/ craft room, a man cave room/ exercise room, and a sweet and girly guest room that just makes me smile :).
Now that you've gotten a small intro into what our home is about, lets talk about pretty pink things! Like this...
Our guest bedroom-
I know, I guess I went kind of black-and-white-print-crazy, but I like it! This room was previously an elementary aged girls bedroom, and it was the original master bedroom of our home, so yes it has an adjoining bathroom (of which I have done nothing in, so you won't see pictures yet)
Just to give you a taste of my frugalness, I've probably spent about $100 max in this room (and we didn't have a guest room in our previous pint-sized apartment) Here is a breakdown of some of the things in the room...
-The bed-
These mattresses were Nick's pre-marriage bed in his mothers home, and we packed them up and brought them to our new home some friends and family can actually have a place to lay their heads! I had the vision to do this room in black and white patterns, which would go with the pink walls (more on that later). I found the bedding at Wal-Mart of all places, but how perfect is it! I do plan to make some sort of headboard, either something upholstered, or a one-of-a-kind yard sale find that can be made into a headboard!
-The footstool/bench/previous coffee table-
The cuteness in this bench is one of my first ever furniture painting projects, probably 3 years ago now. It was originally a coffee table, in my first college apartment. It's so cute and dainty, so why not use it as a bench in the room!
-The Nightstand-
I know, the nightstand is currently chocolate brown (and has a funky stain on it). But, it will soon get a makeover! It's an old like TV stand thing, and I've used it in almost every apartment and home since college, so it has now become the nightstand. And that lamp, yep, you guessed it- already had from a previous college apartment. How cute does it go here though!? I did recover the shade with some fabric- as it was a red shade, and wasn't coming into this room looking like that!
-The Dresser-
Ohhh my favorite piece of the room :), and my most recent project. This dresser was a freebie! Thats right, one of my mom's coworkers was going to throw it out, so I adopted it, with some big visions of it in the pink room!
These are the best "before" pictures I have of it, along with some of the sanding pictures. I'd contracted out some of this work to my hubby!
So, after the sanding, I put two good coats of black paint on it. This paint worked really well...
Next came the awesome fabric treatment for the front of the drawers. I wanted to do something funky, and I'm not too good with drawing, so I pulled out some fabric I already had (black with white polka dots) and bought two zebra print handkerchiefs. The process is super easy
1. soak fabric in liquid starch until it is all wet
2. spread the fabric out on the surface you are covering
3. let dry- i let it dry for about 3 days
4. cut off the excess, and hot glue down the edges (to secure it extra good)
Simple as that! Here is a picture of the drying process...
and here she is, in all her black and white patterned glory-
Isin't it precious!? I'm quite proud of her, and glad she turned out ok.
Now, if you are fooled to believe this room is "complete", please let me share with you the "to-do" list i've made of more fun projects and things for the pink room!!
- Paint the walls- I know, it won't be the pink room anymore! haha. I'm thinking a lime
green/yellow color, but not too bright. Along with some glossy white trim. I had reasons for
doing black and white for everything- it'll always go in any color room!
- Rug- possibly pink when the walls go greenish? We'll see. (maybe even use that furry blanket thats on the bed as a makeshift rug?!?)
- Light fixture- definitely thinking of a DIY ribbon type thing.
- Knobs for dresser- I put on the original knobs, just updated them with paint, but I'm planning on some kind of bling type knob. We'll see what hobby lobby has on sale soon :)
- Headboard- something DIY- either upholstered or a yard sale find. I thought a big old window or door would be neat-o!
- Nightstand- needs new paint, and possibly some kind of bling
- Wall hangings- the ironwork above the bed are not staying there, so they are an option for another wall, along with a cute mirror I have to maybe bounce some light around the room.
So there you have it, my first official blog post, and I must say, I'm addicted!
What rooms in your home have you been spending time it? Have you done any furniture makeovers? Plans for more projects in special rooms?
I am so overwhelming proud of your first very extensive very detailed post!
